Alberici Constructors, St. Louis, installed two 230-ton sector-gate leaves at the Seabrook Floodgate Complex in New Orleans on March 15 and 17. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and contractors are installing the final, major elements of a $14.6-billion, 123-mile-long flood-defense system that is designed to reduce the risk from storm surge that has a 1% chance of occurring in any given year. Construction of the $165-million complex began in May 2010; completion is set for June 19.
