Several mechanical failures have shaken global projects, prompting safety probes. The streak started in New Delhi with a bridge-launching gantry that collapsed on Oct. 19, killing two people and injuring 11 at a fly-over construction site along the city’s new mass-transit system. In China on Oct. 28, cableway rigging flying a container filled with 23 workers at a bridge site near Chongqing dropped the basket, killing 11 and injuring the rest. Two days later in China, a hoist at a mixed-use development near Ningde collapsed, killing 12 workers who where riding inside.
