Health and environmental groups filed a lawsuit on May 27 challenging the Environmental Protection Agency’s new air-quality standard for ozone. EPA tightened the standard to 75 parts per billion (ppb), from the current 80 ppb. But the critics say that falls short of the level needed to protect public health with the adequate margin of safety the Clean Air Act requires. Industry groups say EPA should have kept the 80-ppb standard.
