he U.S. District Court of eastern California tossed out on April 16 a federal plan that would have allowed more pumping of water from the California Delta, which includes the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers. In his ruling, Judge Oliver Wanger cited the impact on local salmon stocks and faulted the federal government for failing to analyze the effects of global warming on the fish. The ruling will make it more difficult to divert water to southern California.
