The state of Alaska dropped one of its most expensive and controversial projects, a $398-million bridge to link Alaska’s city of Ketchikan to an airport on Gravina Island. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) said, “It’s clear that Congress has little interest in spending any more money on [the] bridge.” The $36 million in funds that would have gone to the bridge is now available for other projects.
