German Construction Trades Battle for 3.5% Pay Hike
Over 1,000 construction workers went on strike at 110 sites across the north German states of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein on June 18, according to the workers' union IG Bau. The union plans to escalate the indefinite strike in its bid to win a 3.5% pay hike, which is supported by nearly 90% of members in a vote, the union claims. IG Bau called its last major walkout in 2002, which was Germany's first nationwide construction strike in over 50 years.
