A CD-ROM has come out that provides a detailed video tutorial for learning about inspecting installations of concrete reinforcing bars.

Field Inspection of Reinforcing Bars discusses in detail technical and nontechnical job skills needed by the field inspector. The first section covers codes, materials and material markings, as well as job-specific training in detail. A second section covers ties and bar supports and installation, with a review of allowable tolerances, from manufacturing to installation. The last section references corrosion protection, field bending, lap splices and mechanical splices.

The CD was developed by the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute, a Schaumburg, Ill.-based nonprofit trade group. It costs $30 plus shipping and may be ordered by calling (800) 465-2774.
