The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality named nine winners for its 18th annual Texas Environmental Excellence Award, which recognizes projects that provide superior resource conservation, waste reduction and pollution prevention.

The winners by category are: 1) agriculture, Texas AgriLife Research, Texas AgriLife Extension Service, West Texas A&M University, USDA-Agricultural Research Service, and Kansas State University for the Amarillo region; 2) large business/non-technical, Texas Lehigh Cement Co. in the Buda region; 3) civic/nonprofit organization, the Office of Community Outreach at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in the Corpus Christi region; 4) large business/technical, Oncor Electric Inc. in the Dallas district; water conservation, Tarrant Regional Water District in the Fort Worth region; small business, Phoenix Commotion in the Huntsville district; youth, Sarah Jo Lambert in the Lubbock district; education, city of Waco, Baylor University and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Waco district; and government is the Waco Metropolitan Area Regional Sewerage System in the Waco district.
