ABC gave two additional awards recognizing individuals, rather than companies, for their outstanding safety records. The first award, for Outstanding Field Professional, was given to Corey Sefcovic with Hensel Phelps Construction Co., Greeley. Second, John Wardlaw with Casey Industrial Inc., Westminster, was honored with the Tony Dietrich Safety Professional of the Year Award.


ABC Announces STEP Award Winners

ABC also recognized its members who won national Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) awards, granted by ABC National. The awards are given in four categories—silver, gold, platinum and diamond—based on 20 key elements of a contractor’s safety program that include safety policies, employee commitment and training, management commitment and budgeting.

 Only two Rocky Mountain Chapter members achieved the elite Diamond STEP level: Hensel Phelps Construction Co, Greeley; and TIC-The Industrial Co., Englewood.

Platinum level winners included Bergelectric Corp., Denver; Casey Industrial, Westminster; Central Mechanical Inc. Erie; Design Mechanical, Louisville; Douglass Colony Group, Commerce City; FCI Constructors Inc., Longmont; Greiner Electric LLC, Littleton; Interstate Cos., Ft. Collins; Metro Fence Co. Inc., Commerce City; Mortenson Construction, Denver; MTech Mechanical Technologies Group, Westminster; RK Mechanical Inc., Denver; Stanek Constructors Inc., Golden; and Western Summit Constructors Inc., Denver.

Achieving the Silver STEP level were Coloscapes Concrete, Windsor; Diamond Drilling and Sawing Co. Inc., Denver; Duro Electric Co., Englewood; Gracon Corp., Loveland; Gregory Electric Inc., Loveland; Kimmel Mechanical Inc., Denver; Pinkard Construction Co., Lakewood; Roche Constructors Inc., Greeley; Waner Construction, Littleton; and White Construction Group, Castle Rock.

ABC Scholarships

Before the awards portion of the ceremony, two deserving Colorado high school students received ABC Bob Piper Construction Education Scholarships of $1,000 each. The first scholarship winner was Josh Weller of Buena Vista High School, who has a 4.018 grade point average. Weller will be attending the University of Hawaii to pursue a degree in civil or mechanical engineering.

Also receiving a scholarship was Sienna Palos of William J. Palmer High School in Colorado Springs. Her GPA is 4.95, and she plans to attend the University of Colorado to pursue a career in architectural engineering.
