This issue of Mountain States Construction features our 2010 Intermountain and Colorado Contractors of the Year. Each year the editors select a general contracting firm that demonstrates ongoing innovation and sound business practices to be the magazine’s Contractor of the Year. This year, we chose two from the Mountain States’ region.

We selected Okland Construction Co. Inc. of Salt Lake City based on the firm’s consistent placement in the top 10 of our annual General Contractors rankings. The firm experiences a profitable and busy 2009, despite a recessed market, reported revenue of $607.43 million, bumping the firm from second to first in Mountain States Construction magazine’s annual Top General Contractor rankings.

In Colorado, we also selected Saunders Construction Inc. based on the firm’s consistent placement in the top 10 of our annual GC rankings as well as due to a long and diverse backlog of projects the firm currently has under construction or that will break ground in 2010. For two consecutive years, the firm has been profitable and busy, reporting revenue of $340.11 million in this year’s annual rankings.

This month we also resume our regular Design Matters section, which includes the continuation of our Founders Series with a story on Greenwood Village, Colo.-based MKK Consulting Engineers.
