CONNECTICUT General Electric plans to dismantle its large manufacturing complex in Bridgeport. The complex consists of 13 interconnected structures, the largest of which is 1.5 million sq ft, located on a 76-acre site on Boston Avenue. The facility closed in 2007, and GE began remediation of asbestos and hazardous waste in 2009, in preparation for deconstruction. Bid packages for the demolition of the five-story structures are expected to go out in late summer, and the project is expected to be completed by 2012.
