Working from June 2010 to June 2012, Alberici Constructors Inc. completed the $161-million Seabrook Gate Project in New Orleans for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

A temporary rock dike installed across the canal allowed the Alberici team to install a cofferdam in the dry for use in constructing the project.

"That benefited not only us in construction, but it also provided temporary protection against hurricanes during construction," says Dave Calcaterra, vice president of Alberici.

Alberici drove 30-in.-dia steel pipes that averaged 90 ft in length to support the final gate structures, spanning the 95-ft-wide channel.
