Last month, I announced the winners of ENR’s 8th annual Global Best Projects competition, in which our panel of industry judges identifies and honors the project teams behind outstanding design and construction efforts of the past year. From the 30 winning projects, three have been selected as finalists for Global Project of the Year.

While all of the projects selected from the record number of entries are outstanding examples that show the risks, rewards and hurdles overcome when designing and building internationally, these three projects excel in almost all of the criteria that the projects were judged by: design and construction quality, innovations, safety performance, community benefit and overcoming challenges.

  • Al Mahsama Water Reclamation Plant, located in New Ismailia, Egypt. Submitted by Khatib & Alami. It was also the winner in the water/wastewater category.
  • Sydney Metro Northwest, located in Sydney, Australia. Submitted by Mott MacDonald. It was also the winner in the Rail category.
  • Urban Renewal of Colon (Renovación Urbana de Colón), located in Colon, Panama. Submitted by CNO – Construtora Norberto Odebrecht. It was also the winner in the Renovation/Restoration category.

The winning Global Project of the Year, finalists and all of the selected category winners will be spotlighted in more detail in the Sept. 21 issue of ENR. All the winning projects will also be celebrated at a virtual event held on Sept. 17 – all are invited to see presentations on all the winners and meet and mingle with the teams.

Best of all, the event is free to attend! Visit enr.com/global-best-projects for more info. Hope to “see” you there!
