Productivity apps for the construction and engineering sectors are among the hottest niches in smartphone and tablet devices. Firms large and small are cranking out apps. More and more are just for in-house use.

That's in addition to major providers such as Vela Systems, Autodesk and Bentley, who provide a slew of apps for mobile devices for enterprise customers.
