Now that the skies have finally brightened, it’s time to lurch out of our winter caves and check out some very worthwhile events coming up this month in California:
* In an April 14 Government Affairs webinar, the Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) and Tractor Equipment Sales Inc. (TES) have teamed up to provide an update to the federal highway reauthorization bill and how dealers in the West can help “move the needle in Washington.” Speakers will be Jim White, PhD, founder and CEO of TES, and Christian Klein, vice president of government affairs and Washington counsel for AED. This very successful webinar is this time focused on equipment dealerships in California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico, regions hit hardest by the recession and the slow recovery, state budgets and regulatory issues. * Bryn Burke, owner/president of Vertical Constructors, Santa Fe Springs, alerted me to a special employee appreciation event on Sunday, April 17 for Mr. Crane, the Orange-based crane operator and rigging services firm. The event will highlight Mr. Crane’s very impressive 500,000-hour recordable free and accident free milestone. The celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Peterson Automotive Museum on 6060 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles. Breakfast, prizes and tours are available. Families welcome. * The 17th annual USC AGC Sustainability in Transportation Symposium will take over the JW Marriott at LA Live on Thursday, April 21. Part of a five-year seminar series on megacities, the event will cover major state infrastructure efforts including the California High-Speed Rail and Metro Los Angeles projects. Besides possible drop-ins by Gov. Jerry Brown and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, scheduled speakers include Norman Y. Mineta, former secretary of transportation, who will also receive the 2011 USC Legacy Award for his contributions in public service; Cindy McKim, Caltrans director; Arthur Leahy, CEO of Metro; Gina Marie Lindsay, executive director of Los Angeles World Airports; and Roelof Van Ark, executive director of California HSR.
