Any concerns about economic troubles in China and other developing markets slowing global construction demand were not evident at the Bauma construction equipment trade show, which saw over half a million attendees descend on Munich, Germany, for the largest industry event of the year. Roughly 580,000 visitors from 200 countries took in the offerings of 3,423 exhibitors at the triennial construction equipment trade fair. 

Looking out over the Manitowoc stand at Bauma with its colorful mix of Potain, Manitowoc and Grove cranes, new Manitowoc Cranes CEO and President Barry Pennypacker saw opportunities for savings. 

In a move to expand a product category it helped to pioneer nearly a decade ago, Komatsu announced the launch of the HB365LC-3, a 36-ton hybrid excavator. The machine was on display inside Komatsu’s booth at the Bauma construction-equipment trade show in Munich, Germany, held April 11-17.

As more toolmakers grow their lines of cordless devices, some contractors may decide to switch away from traditional pneumatic platforms.
