Houston-based Orion Marine Group’s subsidiary, F. Miller Construction LLC, was awarded an $18-million contract by the Bayou Lafourche Fresh Water District for phase one of the Restoration of Bayou Lafourche. div id="articleExtrasA" div id="articleExtrasB" div id="articleExtras" F. Miller Construction will restore the watershed and increase the capacity of Bayou Lafourche through mechanical dredging and construction services. Bayou Lafourche is the freshwater lifeline of a large wetland area and vital to coastal restoration in Louisiana. It provides drinking water for more than 300,000 residents. The project is expected to began second quarter 2011 and last about 16 months.
The new BNSF Railway’s Chihuahuita Connection benefits the railroad, the Chihuahuita area, the city of El Paso and rail customers using the El Paso/Juarez border gateway. div id="articleExtrasA" div id="articleExtrasB" div id="articleExtras" The Chihuahuita Connection began operating in June. In conjunction with a rail-highway grade separation project in Juarez, programmed by Mexico’s Transport and Communications Ministry, the connection is expected to reduce freight congestion at the U.S.-Mexico border. The BNSF Chihuahuita Connection was a joint effort of the Texas Dept. of Transportation, the city of El Paso and BNSF. The project used ARRA funds and private contributions.
