Through August of 2009, the nonbuilding market for the metro area of Miami, Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale is well ahead of other regions in the Southeast Construction coverage area, according to McGraw-Hill Construction, the magazine’s publisher. The Miami-Fort Lauderdale area has experienced nearly $2.3 billion in new nonbuildiing project starts through August, or more than double its amount at the same time last year. While the overall value of new Georgia contracts signed in August for future construction declined by 16% compared to the same period of a year ago, there was a significant bright spot during the month as a result of federal stimulus funding.
