The Corrections Standards Authority of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has awarded $602 million to 11 counties for the expansion or construction of county jails. The award is in adherence to Gov. Jerry Brown’s public safety realignment program, which, as Assembly Bill 109 passed and signed last April, seeks to keep lower-level offenders and parole violators from revolving through the state prison system and places them in local facilities. AGC of California has announced the selection of 19 projects as finalists in the 25th Annual Constructor Awards program. AGC received 40 Constructor Awards entries this year – the highest number of entries received in a single year since the awards program began. California needs an additional annual infrastructure investment of $65 billion to bring its aging systems up to date, according to conclusion of the California Infrastructure Report Card 2012 released this week by Region 9 of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
