WIFIA loan is set to help fund 160 projects to repair aging and storm-damaged sewer pipes.

The loan, one of two EPA is providing to Hampton Roads Sanitation District, will help replenish the aquifer, address rising sea levels and help protect the Chesapeake Bay. 

Proposal would require surety bonds on DOT loan program, including its projects with private funding.

A facility under construction will treat the same amount of wastewater but has upgrades for better seismic and flooding resilience.
