Builders of Miami International Airport's new $1.1-billion North Terminal transformed a 50-year-old building into a mile-long, 3.2-million-sq-ft transportation hub. The seven-year effort—broken up via five separate contracts—required demolishing two concourses and doubling the length of another concourse.

The joint venture team used a phased, gate-driven schedule to trim two years from the original construction timetable. At peak, crews produced $30 million worth of construction per month, delivering the project on schedule and with no claims.
