Construction Fatality
Male, Believed to Be Project Worker, Dies in Fall on STO Building Group London Site
The UK unit of the NYC-based global contractor and construction management firm confirmed the July 9 fatality on a renovation project

An STO Building Group spokesperson said the death was not due to a jobsite safety violation.
Structure Tone International, the unit of New York City-based global contractor and construction management firm STO Building Group, has confirmed a July 9 fatality believed to be a project worker who fell from the site of a building interior renovation project in London. Neither the police nor the company have identified the name, employer or occupation of the deceased.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said the incident involved a male in his 30s who was pronounced dead at the scene in the city’s Mayfair section, at the intersection of Berkeley Street and Stratton Street, according to media reports.
In a statement to industry publication Building, also confirmed to ENR, London-based Structure Tone said it is “aware of a tragic incident that occurred at our project site on Stratton Street in London today” and that the firm is “fully cooperating with the relevant authorities as they establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
The police and company declined further comment on the cause of the incident, but according to Structure Tone, it did not “involve a construction health and safety violation,” as outlined in the completed police investigation. A formal Metropolitan Police statement is set for release July 13.
Structure Tone International is the principal contractor for refurbishment and fit out of the 50 Berkeley / 50 Stratton Street office development, part of a larger commercial retrofit and office extension of two interconnected buildings managed by developer Berkeley Estate Asset Management.
