Arkansas The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Dept. is planning to carry out a Highway 71 improvement project. The work involves constructing 3.3 miles of a two-lane section of an ultimate four-lane section of Highway 549 in Benton County, including a 557-ft continuous composite plate girder bridge and a 188-ft continuous composite W-beam bridge. Florida The South Florida Water Management District and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are planning to restore the Loxahatchee River Watershed. The project entails constructing a 9,500-acre-ft reservoir augmented with four aquifer storage recovery wells. In addition, it includes improvements to culverts and a new operable weir on Cypress Creek Canal, plugging ditches to improve sheet flow in the Nine Gems tract and a flow-through marsh to capture canal and sheet flow from the west. Nebraska J Development is planning to build the Swivel Apartments at 119 N. 72 St. in Omaha. The existing one-story commercial building on the site will be renovated and reused as a two-level indoor parking structure with 122 stalls. A five-story apartment building will be constructed, integrated into and partially on top of the existing building, with 155 apartments. Oregon Obsidian Solar Center LLC is planning to construct the Obsidian Solar Center, a 400-MW solar photovoltaic energy generation facility, located within a site boundary of approximately 3,921 acres near Christmas Valley. Virginia The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is planning to carry out the Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) southern expansion. The proposed expansion site is approximately 70 acres, bounded by Washington Boulevard (Route 27), I-395, the Virginia Dept. of Transportation Maintenance Complex, the Foxcroft Heights neighborhood and the cemetery. ANC proposes to establish a single contiguous parcel of land south of the cemetery by closing, realigning and relocating local roadways, and developing the parcel to increase the cemetery’s burial capacity by 40,000-60,000 spaces for first graves and inurnments. A new Southgate Road will be realigned, and Columbia Pike will be straightened. The project is valued at $274 million. Idaho Sletten Construction Co. has started upgrading an existing wastewater reclamation facility in Post Falls. The work entails converting oxidation ditches to recover alkalinity and for total nitrogen reduction and installing a secondary clarifier and a new secondary effluent intermediate pump station, a new rapid mix, flocculation and plate settler tertiary clarification system and a new membrane filtration system. Missouri Alberici Constructors Inc. has started rehabilitating the pier at Lock and Dam 24 on the Mississippi River in Clarksville. The work involves painting and repair of the 15 tainter gates and bridge spans. Government furnished components for replacing existing chains for the tainter gates will be installed. Bridge repairs consist of bearing shoe bolt replacement, gusset plate removal and replacement, replacement of crane rail clips and walkway grating, and painting of the service bridge. Texas 9/17 J.E. Kingham Construction Co., the construction manager, is seeking subcontractor bids on the Griffith Fine Arts Building renovation and addition project. The work involves renovating 63,355 sq ft of the existing Griffith Fine Arts facility at Stephen F. Austin State University, built in 1959, and constructing approximately 38,000 sq ft of new space to house a theater with support and rehearsal facilities as well as a screening/lecture hall.
