Plans to build an 800-MW offshore wind farm off the Massachusetts coast near Martha’s Vineyard advanced on Aug. 1 when developer Vineyard Wind announced power contract deals with three major state utilities that set a levelized price of 6.5¢ per kW/hr. The project is set to be the largest offshore wind farm so far in the U.S. Lars Thaaning Pedersen, CEO of Vineyard Wind, a partnership of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Avangrid Renewables, said the firm could keep the cost down by using federal investment tax credits within the structure of a long-term power purchase agreement.
