Overall Construction Spending Surges as Non-Residential Activity Posts Dramatic Increase

Retail and hospitality sectors are showing continued growth. Gains are also seen in education and industrial work.

Growth is happening in numerous sectors, McDaniel says, adding that Flagstaff’s skiing and recreation opportunities along with proximity to Phoenix and the Grand Canyon are always a competitive advantage. “There are cranes everywhere,” he says, referring to the northern Arizona town’s development, including several new hotels. Commercial and residential projects were down after the 2008 recession, but pentup demand has nurtured growth, he says. “We’re seeing a lot of new retail centers come on line, along with new restaurants.”
