Growth is happening in numerous sectors, McDaniel says, adding that Flagstaff’s skiing and recreation opportunities along with proximity to Phoenix and the Grand Canyon are always a competitive advantage. “There are cranes everywhere,” he says, referring to the northern Arizona town’s development, including several new hotels. Commercial and residential projects were down after the 2008 recession, but pentup demand has nurtured growth, he says. “We’re seeing a lot of new retail centers come on line, along with new restaurants.”
