Chinese officials are investigating the cause of an April 14 crane accident that killed 18 workers and injured another 18 in Dongguan. The 80-ton overhead crane fell onto a two-story temporary building made from shipping containers, crushing workers sleeping inside. Initial reports said that the crane may have tumbled due to strong winds. “The company will actively assist authorities to investigate the accident,” says China Communications Construction Co. Ltd., which owns the site of the accident. The company has set aside $3 million for cleaning up the wreckage and paying workers’ families.
