Roberson headed
EM program since 2001.

Jessie Roberson has resigned as the Dept. of Energy's assistant secretary for environmental management, the department announced on June 15. She will leave DOE effective July 15, DOE said.

DOE said that in Roberson's resignation letter to President Bush and Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham, she said, "Although I was planning to serve the full term, personal family matters have required a change to my plans...." Paul Golan, principal deputy assistant secretary for environmental management, has been named acting assistant secretary.

Roberson, who was sworn in as assistant secretary in July 2001, had managed DOE's Rocky Flats field office in Colorado. She also had worked for Georgia Power Co. and Du Pont Co.

Abraham praised Roberson, saying she "fundamentally changed the culture of the department's environmental management program, thereby ensuring that this very difficult program has a road map for success." He also said that Roberson had told him more than a year ago that she wanted "to spend more time with her family."
