Lt. Gen. Robert L. Van Antwerp Jr.’s nomination to be chief of the Army Corps of Engineers has advanced in the Senate, with the Armed Services Committee’s approval on March 15. The next step would be action by the full Senate. Since November 2004, Van Antwerp has been head of the Army’s Accessions Command, which is responsible for recruits through initial training. If confirmed, he would succeed Lt. Gen. Carl A. Strock as Chief of Engineers.
