U.K.-based Balfour Beatty plc., London, has confirmed plans to close its civil engineering business in Pennsylvania and Ohio as contracts end over the next two years. Bigger civil operations in Texas and the West Coast will continue. The closing units contribute about a fifth of the firm's $520 million civil business. The remaining civil business, Atlanta-based Balfour Beatty Construction Inc., will be renamed Balfour Beatty Infrastructure after the group completes its acquisition of the building firm Centex Construction, Dallas, due this month.
