A joint venture between Washington Group International, Boise, Idaho, and Alberici Constructors, St. Louis, Mo., has been awarded a contract to build one of the world's largest cement plants for Holcim (U.S.) Inc. The joint venture will provide procurement, construction management and general contractor services for the main plant of the $905-million cement-manufacturing complex in Ste. Genevieve County, Mo. The facility's single kiln will produce 12,000 metric tons of clinker per day, making it the largest single clinker production line in the world. Construction will start immediately and is expected to wrap up in the third quarter of 2009.
