A grand jury in Miami charged W. Scott DeLoach, former chief financial officer of engineer PBS&J, and two former colleagues with conspiracy to commit mail fraud in a scheme through which they allegedly netted millions of dollars paid out of company medical benefits. All three pleaded not guilty, according to published reports. The grand jury also charged DeLoach with violating campaign finance laws for illegal contributions to the U.S. Senate campaign of Republican Mel Martinez. Tampa-based PBS&J has pledged to repay funds to clients overcharged because of the alleged fraud. Neither the company, the U.S. attorney nor attorneys for DeLoach could be reached for comment.
