Organizers of Londons 2012 Olympic Games launched a competition on July 25 to find a design-build team for its 80,000-seat main stadium, to be built east of the city. The Olympic Delivery Authority will prequalify up to six groups to bid under new European Union rules, aiming to award a contract by early next January. ODA is seeking an integrated team that can combine design innovation with construction excellence, says agency CEO David Higgins. He aims to have venues ready for testing at least a year before the games begin.
