President Bush’s nominee to head the Interior Dept., Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne, has received Senate energy committee approval, but faces a hurdle to confirmation. Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), who voted “present“ when the panel cleared Kempthorne May 10, has a “hold” on the nomination, delaying floor action. Landrieu wants the Bush administration to support a plan to give Louisiana and other coastal states a share of royalty revenue from offshore oil drilling.
