Development of a strategic vision for sustainable management of California�s Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is expected to identify engineering and construction solutions to the problems of the hub of California�s two largest water distribution systems. Late last month, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) signed legislation to create a cabinet-level committee that will prepare a strategic vision by Dec. 31, 2008. With consultants, the committee will analyze findings by the California Depts. of Water Resources and Fish and Game to address ecosystem function, sustainable use in regard to land use and land-use patterns, transportation, utilities, water supply, recreation and flood man- agement. The plan also could involve levee strengthening.
