$12 Million in Stimulus Funding Dedicated to Belton Dam Repairs
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, began repairs on the upstream slope of Belton Dam in January. The damage occurred during 2007, where lake levels entered the flood pool. Wind and wave action hitting the slope caused surface layer displacement of rip rap, a rock or similar product that protects the underlying layers of the dam.
The almost $12-million ARRA project is expected to take 12 to 18 months to complete. Repairs will involve lowering the lake level about 2 ft to aid in rip rap removal, re-grading of the soil and replacement of the rip rap to ensure an adequate layer of protection.
