The project is tracking for LEED gold. The main central utility plant for the engineering campus is across the street from Caruth. Water from the plant will be used for irrigation.

Umphrey Lee Center Renovation?Hahnfeld Hoffer Stanford also is designing a renovation of Umphrey Lee Center that will create upscale ballroom, lobby and prefunction spaces, converting the former student center into a banquet facility. SMU selected Turner Construction Co. of Dallas to complete the work. Construction began in April.

In the future?SMU plans a 1,400-bed housing, parking, food-service and classroom complex. The university is in the process of selecting an architect with construction scheduled to begin in January 2012.

It will be the largest undertaking that we have done since the construction of (Gerald J.) Ford stadium, Jabour says. Its to suffice a requirement for sophomores to live on campus.

Jabour describes it as a model for future on-campus housing complexes.

The George W. Bush Presidential Center will locate at SMU, but the George W. Bush Foundation is heading up that project, a brick and limestone structure designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects of New York. The foundation plans to break ground on the building this fall, with a spring 2013 opening scheduled.
