The four-story, 180,000-sq-ft, full-service hospital includes inpatient, outpatient and emergency services.

The facility is a four-story, 180,000-sq-ft, full-service hospital that includes inpatient, outpatient and emergency services. Other components of the project comprise a main-level entry that opens up to a two-story glass atrium, complete with food service for patients and families.

Imaging, emergency and surgical departments are all supported by state-of-the-art equipment that promotes a positive healing experience and the well-being of young patients.

A full array of outpatient services, including but not limited to ENT, ortho and sports medicine rehab and ophthalmology are provided on the upper two floors, in addition to in-patient rooms for children requiring admission. Anticipating future growth, the upper two floors can easily be converted to full inpatient floors, thus tripling the current capacity.

In a statement, The Children’s Hospital recently commended the project team on its “effective use of resources and complex coordination of the teams and timelines. We are proud of our newest site and know that our patients and their families will find that it will serve them well.”

Both Denver’s Davis Partnership Architects and FKP Architects worked collaboratively during all phases of the project with general contractor Saunders Construction to expedite the production and review of drawings to meet the owner’s aggressive schedule.

The fast-track nature of this project challenged the design and construction team to continuously seek new and innovative solutions. The implementation of the curtain-wall design is an example of where the team worked together to achieve the aesthetics while providing a maintenance-free and more economical solution from what has been traditionally done before.
