Fort Carson Warrior in Transition Barracks
Fort Carson, Colo.
Wounded and ill soldiers receive high-quality rehabilitation care at the 96,400-sq-ft Warrior in Transition barracks at Fort Carson, Colo. The new facility incorporates special features to treat burns, behavioral health disorders and traumatic brain injuries. It also helps amputees and visually or hearing-impaired soldiers.
While the project's request for proposal stipulated that it achieve a LEED-Silver certification, the design-build team actually delivered a LEED-Gold project with solar hot water; a ground-source, geothermal-based HVAC system; heat-recovery units; and a 300-kW photovoltaic array.
