Denver Health & Hospital Core Remodels
Submitted by GH Phipps Construction Cos.
When the mission is to save lives in a renowned trauma/emergency department, nothing can interfere, not even a total remodel of core facilities—the hospital’s heart. The assignment was to completely remodel the emergency department and reception area as well as the lower-level kitchen and cafeteria and add a new pediatric emergency department at Denver Health & Hospital, the oldest hospital in the Denver metro area.

Yampa Valley Medical Center Expansion

For many decades, the hospital facility has had a dated look and feel compared to many other, newer hospitals in the region.

The project encompassed more than 138,000 sq ft, packed with the latest in medical technologies. The remodeled space not only gives Denver Health a new dramatic, world-class look and feel, it also is the core of the hospital’s ability to deliver its vital services to the ever-increasing number of patients, as three local hospitals have moved or are about to move outside central Denver.

Yampa Valley Medical Center Expansion

Submitted by Adolfson & Peterson Construction
The Yampa Valley Medical Center project consisted of two brick-veneer expansions within the existing hospital’s obstetrics and surgery departments, allowing the facility to grow with the needs of the community it serves. Each expansion was located in the existing courtyard of the facility.

The first phase was an addition and renovation in obstetrics. The unit was doubled in capacity by adding four LDRs and five post-partum patient rooms. Renovation to the existing nursery and NICU were also completed in this phase, bringing a new vitality to the neonatal unit.

The second phase was an expansion to the surgical department. Two new and two renovated, state-of-the-art operating suites were part of the expansion. The new structure completely infilled the courtyard, requiring extensive soil retention at the existing foundations. Renovations within the department provided space to build a new out patient/minor procedure area

The operating room and obstetrics expansions allowed for a new and direct connectivity of inpatient flow to surgery—greatly improved from that of the existing hospital.
