Two joint ventures have received contract awards from National Grid to design and build transmission lines and substations in New York state and New England. The five-year contracts will have options for a three-year extension. For the five-year term, the contracts together are valued at $1.7 billion. AMEC plc, Michels Corp. and R.G. Vanderweil Engineers are in a joint venture called NorthEast Power Alliance. Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Inc. and MJ Electric LLC, a Quanta Services company, will work on the New England infrastructure as New Energy Alliance. Details of the various projects to be performed have not yet been determined, says Chris Mostyn, National Grid spokesman. The contracts will be finalized by April 1.
