Project News

The project, designed by MOA Architecture of Denver and built by Golden Triangle Construction, included 29,703 sq ft of new construction and 75,877 sq ft of renovations. The project provided the school with a new main gym, new band and orchestra classrooms, new science and special education classrooms, a larger instructional media center and larger, remodeled administrative and counseling offices.

Because Golden Triangle Construction and Boulder Valley School District focus on incorporating sustainable building elements, the project also included upgrades to building systems such as HVAC, irrigation and fire sprinklers, which will increase energy and water efficiency.

Construction is complete on a 103,000-sq-ft expansion to the Adams County Justice Center in Brighton.

Heery International’s Denver office provided design services for the $28-million courthouse and lobby addition. GE Johnson Construction Co. of Denver was the general contractor.

Since its opening in 1998, Adams County’s population growth and increased caseload rapidly outgrew the first-phase, six-story, 200,000-sq-ft facility. By 2007 the 17th Judicial District’s caseload exceeded the capacity of the existing building’s 21 courtrooms, with seven judges sharing space and three additional judges slated to take the bench by 2011. The Phase II expansion accommodates these immediate needs and prepares the county for projected growth through the next 10 to 20 years.

The new courthouse wing design includes 12 new courtrooms and 10 alternative-dispute resolution conference rooms to support current and future court trends. The expansion is fully modernized, incorporating the latest in courtroom technology, acoustics and integrated audio-visual systems.

The Colorado Dept. of Transportation has completed another project funded by the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act. The project, contracted to Elam Construction of Grand Junction for $2.1 million, has resurfaced a 3.3-mile stretch of U.S. 160 west of Del Norte, between mileposts 197.7 and 201.

Elam Construction has earned another top rating for highway smoothness on its asphalt resurfacing work—besting its past recognition for pavement smoothness on U.S. 160 Alamosa East, another ARRA project completed in early September.

The newly resurfaced highway west of Del Norte received the highest smoothness rating for its class, a “mill-and-fill” paving operation, since the Halfcar International Roughness Index was introduced for asphaltpavements in 2005. Not only does the pavement rank first in its class for smoothness but also is now the smoothest project ever built in Colorado under the HRI specification.

The contractor received 99.7% of the incentive available for smoothness, and no sections of the pavement required diamond grinding to remove bumps.

JE Dunn Construction of Denver recently broke ground for Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s new Grizzly Grill, a 4,900-sq-ft dining facility.

Designed by CSNA Architects of Colorado Springs, the Grizzly Grill’s exterior features stone and wood surfaces to merge architecturally with the adjacent buildings and exhibits. The new facility will provide zoo visitors an expanded dining menu and extended indoor/outdoor seating within a modern facility. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2010.
