The Associated General Contractors of America awarded Littleton-based LONG Building Technologies Inc. a national community service award at the association’s 2014 national convention in early March. LONG was honored for donating time and money to a Denver homeless shelter. As a result, the construction firm was one of 10 organizations nationwide to win the AGC in the Community Award from Charities Inc., the charitable arm of AGC.

LONG’s employees have been donating time and money for years to the Denver Rescue Mission, which provides meals, rehabilitation, mentoring and housing to thousands of people each year.

In 2013 the company provided $10,000 in donations to ensure that the shelter was able to serve three meals a day, every day, to those in need. In addition, the funding helped with the facilities’ other services like the New Life Program —a rehabilitation program that helps those with various addictions and other hardships through counseling and curriculum.

AGC in the Community Award winners are selected by a panel of judges representing all areas of construction. Award entries were evaluated based on the level of commitment, the scope of the philanthropic efforts and the quality of the benefits to the community.

“In the construction industry, there’s no greater sense of fulfillment than when a project makes a real difference in people’s lives,” said Jim Clemens, chairman of AGC Charities and chairman emeritus of Philadelphia, Pa.-based Clemens Construction Co. “These projects are building communities and better lives.”
