The U.S. Navy and design-build contractor Barnhart Balfour Beatty recently held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction of two Child Development Centers on Naval Amphibious Base Coronado and Naval Air Station North Island.

Navy contract costs $10.9 million

The two centers have the capacity to serve 286 children. The project will include play areas, landscaping, new parking lots, drop-off areas and service entrances.

Cost of the design and construction of the projects is $10.9 million and work is expected to be completed by January 2011.

The contract was awarded and managed by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southwest, San Diego.

Barnhart Balfour Beatty’s design partner on this contract is Roesling Nakamura Terada (RNT) Architects of San Diego.
