Introduced at the Mid-America Truck Show, the Mack MP8 Econodyne+ engine is designed for on-highway trucks. The engine is able to deliver 505 hp and 1,860 lb-ft of torque when operating in either of the top two gears. When the engine reaches 1,300 rpm and the driver is applying full throttle, the engine's EconoBoost feature kicks in and delivers an additional 200 lb-ft of torque. This feature allows the truck to remain in high gear during steep inclines, improving overall fuel efficiency. The MP8 Econodyne+ is available on Mack Pinnacle highway tractors.

The Bomag BW138AD-5 tandem roller is now available with the optional Economizer system, which provides real-time data on compaction performance. Introduced at World of Asphalt 2013, the Economizer has an easy-to-read display of 10 yellow LEDs indicating the current compaction levels, allowing the operator to make quick adjustments to changing conditions.

At World of Asphalt 2013, Wirtgen Americas showed off its new VF-500 screed for the 8-ft tracked Vision 5100-2 and wheeled Vision 5103-2 pavers. The front-mount V�gele screed allows for extension and retraction without trapping material, unlike rear-mount screeds, so the paver can maneuver around obstacles such as light poles, storm drains and parking-lot islands. The screed vibrates across its entire 8-ft width and can be extended to 15 ft, six inches. The ErgoPlus system allows for control of the screed from built-in consoles or remote units.

Introduced at the 2013 Mid-American Truck Show, the Kenworth T880 vocational truck can be fitted for dump, mixer, refuse and heavy haul applications. It comes standard with a 12.9-liter PACCAR MX-13 engine, rated at 500 hp with 1,850 lb-ft of torque. A Cummins ISX15 engine with up to 600 hp and 2,050 lb-ft of torque is also available. The truck has a 2.1-meter-wide, stamped-aluminum cab with a one-piece, panoramic windshield. The T880 is slated to go into production later this year.
