Top grant of $1B goes to a replacement bridge project linking Duluth, Minn., to Superior, Wis.

The U.S. Dept. of Transportation has awarded $1.5 billion for 26 freight and highway infrastructure projects in the latest round of its seven-year-old Infrastructure for Rebuilding America grants program.

Announcement covers two new, one existing DOT program

The 24 winners were chosen from among 157 eligible proposals.

Largest proposed grants are for highway projects in Georgia, Wisconsin and North Carolina.
