J.C. Cannistraro LLC., the first-ever ENR New England Specialty Contractor of the Year, will be featured in the May Special Regional Edition of ENR New England.

Cannistraro is one of New England’s largest MEP/HVAC and fire protection specialty contractors. The firm ranked No. 2 on the 2017 ENR New England Top Specialty Contractor ranking with revenue of $259 million. In 2017, Cannistraro was also the No. 86-ranked firm on ENR’s Top 600 Specialty Contractor ranking. The firm ranked 102 on the Top 600 ranking the previous year with revenue of $205.5.

Headquartered in Watertown, Mass., the firm recently signed a 50-year ground lease in Boston’s Seaport District to consolidate its prefabrication and assembly plants. The firm has 800 employees, including 200 in the office and 600 in the field. 

Cannistraro is on the cutting edge of technology. They work closely with Autodesk to pilot efforts to help bring manufacturing techniques to construction.  

Some of the firm’s key projects include:

Seaport Square: This is a major new development in Boston’s Seaport District. Phase 1 included the mechanical infrastructure for buildings B & C which are now occupied by retail, residences and restaurants. The current project occupies 928,000 sq ft for high rise apartments and condominiums (as well as a garage) in a neighboring parcel, where the firm is delivering HVAC piping, sheet metal and fire protection.

Harvard University – Science & Engineering Complex: The core & shell and tenant fit-out project involves a 640,000-sq-ft facility in Boston’s Allston neighborhood that will be a laboratory/classroom building. The firm is performing HVAC piping, sheet metal and fire protection on the project.

One Kendall Square – Buildings 600 & 700: The infrastructure and renovation project involved laboratory and mechanical system upgrade in Cambridge, Mass. The firm performed HVAC piping, sheet metal, plumbing and fire protection.

Cannistraro’s community service includes a program that allocates money to every office employee so that they can make charitable donations of their choosing on the firm's behalf. The company also offers eight hours of community service time to each office employee so they can participate in a community service event. The firm also raised money and supplies for victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. An employee at the firm traveled to Puerto Rico to hand-delivery supplies.

Cannistraro is also a primary underwriter of the Plumbing Museum, a non-profit organization that promotes the history of the trades.
