After nearly three years of deliberation and modifications, a project by Foster + Partners at 980 Madison Ave on New York’s Upper East Side has received approval from the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission. For 980 Madison Avenue, the developer initially wanted to add a pair of intersecting towers to the building. In May 2008, a revamped scheme was proposed that featured a five-story addition with a screen made of bronze-colored rods. Governor David A. Paterson recently kicked off a $376.3 million runway reconstruction project for John F. Kennedy International Airport. The Bay Runway which at 14,572 ft is one of the longest runways in the nation will undergo rehabilitation to reduce delays and improve airport operations while supporting 2,500 jobs. New York City Buildings Commissioner Robert LiMandri has announced a new program that will use global-positioning system technology to track the locations of the Department of Buildings 379 inspectors throughout New York City. The new tracking system will be installed in the inspector’s DOB-issued cell phones in order to better increase the integrity, efficiency and safety of all inspections.
