Turner Construction Company has been selected by the New York School Construction Authority to manage the renovation and addition to P.S./I.S. 42 in Arverne, Queens and the construction of P.S./I.S. 277 in Jamaica, Queens.

The $43 million P.S./I.S. 42 project involves a six-story, 53,000-sq-ft building that will include a cafeteria, kitchen, gymnasium and a mezzanine to connect the new and original facilities as well as 410 new classroom seats, amusic suite, art and science labs. Turner will also manage renovations to the existing school that will include a kindergarten suite, parent community room and the consolidation of communications and life safety systems. Completion is scheduled for January 2013.

The construction of the four-story, 95,000-sq-ft P.S./I.S. 277 will include 21 classrooms, five special education rooms, science, art and music spaces, a gymnasium, an auditorium, library and cafeteria. Separate playgrounds will also be constructed for the early childhood students and the first through eighth grade students. Upon completion in August 2012, this $47 million project will accommodate 665 students.

Both projects are designed and will be built to meet the SCA’s Green Standards which sets requirements for achieving water and energy conservation goals on construction projects.
