As many as 15 million passengers will travel through this rapid transit station that connects downtown Beijing to the Universal Beijing Resort set to open in 2021.
The project’s BIM-forward design is a first for Beijing’s rail transit system. BIM modeling proved vital in executing engineering and installation of the station’s hyperboloid curtain wall. The 13,000-sq-m station roof is supported by eight umbrella-shaped columns, while glass curtainwall and numerous skylights provide travelers with a sweeping outdoor view. At night, curved light strips in the station hall and curved pixel screens on the umbrella-shaped columns can change colors based on park themes.
Teams from across China coordinated work on the station, including a steel structure and curtain wall construction unit from Zhejiang province, a decorative construction unit from Sichuan province and a landscape construction unit from Jiangsu province. The station was delivered on time and within budget in December 2019.
